Dental Cleaning (prophylaxis) - in the absence of gum disease, most individuals should see a dentist or dental hygienist every 6 months to have the tartar deposits removed from their teeth. In combination with regular brushing and flossing at home, tartar removal will help prevent gum disease.
Oral health examinations - Every patient should be examined by a dentist regularly. We look carefully at your gums, jaw joint, teeth, and muscles. Besides looking for dental decay and gum disease, your dentist will screen for oral cancer and other oral signs of medical diseases.

Frequent examinations helps identify early cavities and disease and will help reduce costly dental treatment such as root canals and crowns. Early treatment can help prevent pain and abscesses.
Dental X-rays - X-rays help detect dental decay in areas in between teeth where they most commonly occur. Without dental x-rays these areas of decay and other diseases of the surrounding tissues can go undetected. A failure to diagnose and treat these conditions before symptoms occur can threaten your oral and general health. An annual partial set of x-rays (4 -7 films) helps screen for bone loss, decay, infections in the bone, cysts and other bone diseases.

Due to technological advances, dental x-rays require much less radiation than years ago. The effective dose of radiation that you receive from a complete set of dental x-rays (21 films) is 13 mrem. This is equivalent to about 19 days of exposure to naturally-occurring environmental radiation. For purposes of comparison it is useful to know that, according to federal and most state regulations, persons whose occupations involve some exposure to radiation are permitted to receive up to 5,000 mrem of whole body radiation per year. A full set of x-rays is usually recommended about every five years.
Sealants - Sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored resin coating is painted onto the biting surface of the tooth. They are highly effective in sealing the deep grooves where decay is most likely to start. Sealants can stay bonded for three to seven years. It is an excellent way to minimize the risk of cavities in the grooves of teeth where a tooth brush cannot reach.
Fluoride for adults - It is well documented that fluoride helps strengthen enamel and makes teeth less likely to decay. A lesser known benefit of some fluoride types is its antibacterial properties which are beneficial in treating gum disease. Patients with recent or chronic decay activity can benefit from a fluoride mega dose at your hygiene visit. For some patients a prescription dose fluoride may also be recommended for daily home use.
Fluoride for children - Regular mega dose fluoride treatments are provided routinely to prevent decay in your children's baby and adult teeth. Up until about age 12, the enamel on your child's teeth is developing. It is during the early years of tooth development which can make a big difference on how strong, and decay-resistant their adult teeth will be. Thus it is important that fluoride be part of a child's diet. Fluoride from their toothpaste that they spit out is not a source that helps adult tooth development in the jaw bone because it is not swallowed.

Your drinking water is usually a primary source of fluoride, however we have tested the amount of fluoride in many local communities including the cities of Everett, Lynwood and Marysville. The results show that there is less fluoride than is recommended by the American Dental Association. Thus, most children locally should have fluoride supplements (tablets) prescribed by your dentist. A water analysis of the fluoride at your home will determine the amount of supplements your child should have.
Air Abrasion technique - small cavities on unfilled teeth can often be treated without shots and without a drill! No numbness which lasts 3 hours and no whining, noisy drill.
Porcelain Veneers - Perhaps the most dramatic breakthrough in cosmetic dentistry is the creation of porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin shaped porcelain laminates that when bonded to your teeth can be used to close spaces, lighten color, correct contours, and even improve alignment. Veneers can achieve instant orthodontics. With great at-home care veneers can last a lifetime. Porcelain veneers have given many of our patients the smile they've always dreamed of.
Cosmetic Recontouring - Whether your front teeth have suffered nicks or chips over time or you were never happy with the shape of them, their appearance can often be easily and comfortably improved. Reshaping teeth is painless and can usually be accomplished without getting numb (novocaine).
Porcelain/Metal Crowns - Porcelain/metal crowns are both durable and attractive. This is most often the treatment of choice when it is necessary to restore badly broken-down teeth to their former strength and beauty.

Bridges - Missing teeth can be replaced to restore chewing function, to prevent teeth from drifting and to give you back the smile you desire. A variety of materials and techniques can be used to replace missing teeth with bridges.
Tooth colored fillings - natural looking tooth colored fillings can be placed in front and back teeth. This ceramic filled resin material is hardened in your tooth by a high intensity light. These mercury-free filling bond to the tooth surfaces and give the tooth back some structural strength.
Teeth Whitening - Teeth Whitening is one of the easiest, most pleasing procedures. Whitening your teeth can brighten your smile and give you extra self confidence. This can be achieved at home using thin, custom-made bleaching trays that fit neatly over your teeth. You can choose a nightly system or a system which you use 30 minutes two times per day. You will see results within the first two days. Maximum treatment usually takes 10-14 days.
Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics) - Why is a "root canal" needed? Extensive decay, trauma to a tooth, fracture, or gum disease can kill the nerve inside of a tooth. However, your teeth can be saved using modern "root canal" therapy, also called Endodontics. The prefix " endo- " means " inside " and the word ending "-dontics" means " teeth", so Endodontics has to do with treating the "inside of teeth".

The inside of a tooth is like the inside of a candy tootsie pop. Inside every tooth's crown there is a hollow area that extends into each of the tooth roots. The hollow area in the root is called a "canal". Each "root canal" is cleaned out, widened, and filled during "root canal" therapy.
Surgical Treatment of Periodontal Disease - Our specialist, Dr. Kim Smith helps our patients prevent tooth loss due to gum disease. Replacing missing dental bone and gum tissue, reducing periodontal pockets, surgical placement of implants and cosmetic gum treatment are some of the services she offers.

Non-surgical treatment of gums disease (scaling and root planing) - this is the most conservative option that is initially chosen to treat periodontal disease. It involves removing tartar and disease between the tooth and gums where gum fibers have separated from the root. Often, local anesthetic is used. It's goal is to allow gum fibers to reattach to root surfaces, reducing periodontal pocket depths in order to prevent bone loss, infection and tooth loss.

Periodontal (gum disease) maintenance - once initial scaling and root planning is completed, pocket depths and home care are reevaluated. Based on theses findings, the frequency of your periodontal maintenance visits will be recommended. Many patients with gum disease need to see the dental hygienist every 3 or 4 months.
Removable Partial and Denture Services - We offer a full range of denture services including new dentures, repairs and relines.
Dental Implants - Implants can be used to replace missing teeth. An artificial metal root is surgically place in the bone. These fixtures can then be restored with a crown, fixed, bridge or a removable bridge.
Simple and Complex Extractions - Most teeth, including wisdom teeth can be comfortably removed by any of our dentists using local anesthetic and nitrous oxide sedation .These procedures are usually too quick and easy to warrant the risk of general anesthesia.
Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation - Anxious or fearful patients can often benefit from nitrous oxide gas or other medication to make their dental experience more comfortable. However we begin overcoming your fears and anxieties by putting you totally in control of your dental visit and discussing with you how you can have a comfortable, positive dental experience.
Desensitizing Varnishes - Hot and cold sensitive teeth often occurs when root surfaces become exposed. Gum recession and teeth grinding are common causes of sensitive teeth. A simple, pain free procedure can eliminate most sensitivities.
TMJ treatment (jaw joint or muscle pain) - Pain in your jaw when you chew food, when you open wide or when you sleep in certain positions are symptoms commonly reported when suffering from Temperomandibular Joint Disorders. Headaches, ear pain or popping noises are other common symptoms.

Our doctors have successfully managed and conservatively treated numerous patients with these symptoms and other related symptoms.
